Rotary Year 2011-2012 Dear Visitors:
Welcome to the Newport-Irvine Rotary Club!! Founded in 1967, the Newport-Irvine Rotary Club (NIRC) has over 55 members dedicated to an array of charitable service activities in our local communities and abroad. Through the generosity of our members, our club has continued to provide scholarships and career guidance to needy and deserving youths, provide books to our local schools, sponsor the Teacher Exchange Program to foreign countries, and be involved as a sponsor for the largest high school cross-country running event in the country at the Woodbridge High School in Irvine. Additionally, we continue to actively collaborate with our sister club in Ensenada, Mexico, to help their local schools, support a wheelchair assembly plant in Zambia to make wheelchairs locally for the disabled as well as create jobs in the local community, and implement a large water supply project in an orphanage in Myanmar. In support of youth development, NIRC continues to work with UC Irvine Rotaract Club on a variety of community service projects. And our newly chartered Interact Clubs at Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana, and the University High School, Irvine, are poised to follow in the same direction. These young people give us great hope for Rotary’s future in Orange County. In addition to the satisfaction we receive from serving our community, our members also enjoy and have lots of fun together! Our meeting venue (the UC Irvine Faculty Club) is a perfect and serene locale. The meetings are sparked by entertaining and informative presentations, camaraderie, and good food! As President, I hope to stoke that energy with more “Fellowship, Friendship, and Fun”. I want to create a positive environment for our generous hard working members to enjoy each other's company, share moments of joy and conviviality together, sing together, dance together, share a joke, and pat each other on the back and laugh out loudly together! I believe that our best years as a Club are ahead of us, especially with “Fellowship, Friendship, and Fun” as our watchwords. We will “re-set” the button this year, with those watchwords in our minds and great joy in our hearts, and commit to even “better service” to others. Please come visit us, and get to know this growing family of professionals, business leaders, and retirees that serve others tirelessly, and find out why being a Rotarian is such a rewarding experience!
